Case Studies and bedtime stories

The EMBABE Diaries

Welcome to Case Studies and Bedtime Stories. It started as “an EMBA diary + survival guide” mainly based on my experience, as a professional who also happens to be the mother of two small children, preparing for and attending the Executive EMBA programme at London Business School starting January 2013. In the meantime, I had an amazing two years at LBS, graduated and founded the Romanian chapter of the LBS Alumni Club. I’ve been wondering about keeping this website going after graduation, but decided – once an EMBABE, always an EMBABE – so I’ll keep posting and hopefully some people will keep reading.

Word of caution: all posts are written from a woman’s point of view and with women in mind, but guys please don’t feel left out: men are of course more than welcome to join the conversation.

What’s in this website

The early posts were mostly about life at LBS, so dig deep if that’s what you’re interested in. The best source of information about London Business School is the school’s website, but I couldn’t resist the temptation to add a “Women of LBS” section here to introduce some great alumnae and female faculty. If you’re still at the point where you’re just toying with the idea of an EMBA, the “Before the EMBA” section includes some tips about the admissions process (including the GMAT). Are you thinking about applying to LBS but not sure if it’s right for you? Feel free to write to the EMBA admissions team at They will be happy to answer any questions and even review your CV.

Newer (post-2015) posts are about life after the EMBA, and you know what life is like – you never know what you’re gonna get. But I’m guessing there’s going to be a fair amount of feminist stuff (no surprise there), rants about parenting, and raving about books I’ve read.

About me

I am a lawyer by training (M&A with a focus on private equity) and over the past fifteen years or so I have worked on mid- and large-cap deals throughout south-eastern Europe. I am married to a rather wonderful banking lawyer, whose only imperfection is a work schedule on the hellish side of hectic, and we have a boy (six) and a girl (four), who feature in the blog as their favourite cartoon / video game characters. We started with Finn and Holley (I salute my brothers and sisters in arms who have instantly guessed where these names come from. Hang in there, I am told the Hannah Montana stage is much worse!) and are now on Elsa (you all know where she’s from!) and Steve (from Minecraft).

Dream big everyone,

Alex Florea
